One Year

It's a blissful Thursday evening - I have no plans or obligations, I have a pot of vichyssoise simmering on the stove, I'm planning my upcoming holiday in Sri Lanka (again!), and my kitties are running and jumping around the apartment as kitties are wont to do.

Yesterday marked my one year Saudiversary, as I've come to call it.  It's been an amazing year in many ways, and I can honestly say I am looking forward to what the next year here brings.  And I am also very much looking forward to learning in the coming days where I'll be off to next.  I feel fairly settled in here, comfortable with my work and still excited and challenged by it every day.

Today, though, marks one year without my beloved Hattie.  I already wrote an emotional post a few weeks ago about her death and its enduring heartbreak.  I don't want to repeat that here.  I just don't want today to pass without acknowledging my beautiful little puppy and the impact she had on my life.

Hattie, not a day passes that I don't think of you and wish you were still here.  I am thankful for the wonderful seven years you were in my life and am forever sorry about the circumstances that led to your untimely and unfortunate passing.

I am very thankful for the two beautiful kittens who came into my life shortly after I lost you.  They can never replace you, but they help fill the void you left.

For everything you were, I thank you and love you.
Some of my favorite Hattie memories and pictures...

Hattie loved to chase the barn cats. During the winter, she could get close to their hideout

As soon as she turned around, there they were, taunting her!
Hattie with her equine friend, Merlin. He fascinated her.

Doggie cupcake! She liked it more than this face makes it seem...

Comfy in her bed

New haircut!

First time at the beach!

She loved it!

With her favorite panda toy, after a long DC-NH drive.

I am pretty sure my nephew added the dinosaur...

Stop taking photos!

Presents and Christmas were Hattie's favorite!

Such a good sport!

With the whale.

Hattie and Bowzer on a spring walk in NH

Cutie patootie

Hattie, tables are not for sleeping on...

Toy jumping! And in need of a haircut!

This is heartbreaking. I just looked up your post from last year when it happened and I can't even imagine what you went through.

What an adorable little pup! Thank you for sharing Hattie's photos with us! What a sweetie. It is terribly hard to lose a furbaby. It's been over 2 years since we lost our elderly cats before leaving Cairo and I still get overwhelmed... I was trying to clean out my files last week and came across their paperwork. I managed only to let go of their vet receipts, but kept their travel papers... ah well. Most of the time now though, the memories are sweet and much less painful. Our new kitties also help considerably!

I love the barn photos. Over the years, our dogs (both big and small) have been tormented by my cat of 13 years. SHE owns the house, not us! (obviously)

Hattie was a beautiful and fun furbaby. Thank you for sharing these moments.

I know now this feels. Hattie was gorgeous. My brother had to put his dog down on Saturday, he was a wonderful part of the family too.
